What to Expect on the Day of Neck & Chin Liposuction Surgery

Facial liposuction is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis in a hospital or surgical center. The surgeon makes small, discreet incisions (less than 1/2 inch) in the face or neck. A cannula is inserted through the incision and attached to a suction machine. The procedure may take an hour or more.

The results of liposuction are permanent. However, if you gain a large amount of weight, depending on your skin elasticity, you might notice rippling in the treated areas.

Following liposuction, the scar will mature and fade over time. It may be red and raised during the first 8-12 weeks. The scars will mature over 6-12 months, becoming pale, flat, and soft. You may experience numbness, burning, and tingling around the incision site. These symptoms are almost always temporary. Please let us know if you are prone to keloid scars.

On average, without complications, the procedure takes about an hour to complete.

Post-surgery, the staff will monitor you in the recovery room until the sedation wears off. Patients are encouraged to find a family member or friend to provide them with a ride home.

Patients should take a week off from work and avoid strenuous activity. They should also follow the post-operative instructions, including wearing the compression garment and maintaining basic body movement to prevent blood clots.
